New Moon in Cancer

With the Sun currently in Cancer we may have all felt a bit more “in our feelings” recently, and July 14th’s new moon in the sign of the Crab will amplify this. Cancer is one of the more sensitive and emotional signs of the zodiac, so this could be an intense new moon, particularly if emotions arise that you would rather not confront. Cancer lets us know that it is healthy and positive to feel and express your feelings, and that it is by experiencing them (especially if they are “negative” ones) that we are able to process them and move on. Write in your journal or talk to someone you trust–if you are someone who finds it difficult to be vulnerable, let this moon allow you to experiment with doing so. You could also journal around the ways in which you find it difficult to be vulnerable: is it because you have been hurt in the past, or have you been taught that it is shameful to ask for help or express your feelings, or do you feel that withholding your emotions and thoughts gives you power or leverage over others? Remember that intimacy and greater connection grow when we allow ourselves to be open up to others (and perhaps this is something that scares you too).

Amid the heightened emotions, the moon in Cancer has a very maternal and nurturing energy, so you may feel more inclined to rest, practise self-care and give yourself what you need. Looking after your body and mind through practices such as yoga and meditation will help you to better process any intense feelings. Self-care and taking time out are always important, but particularly so during the sociable hubbub of the midsummer months. Let this lunation give you an excuse for some “me-time” and an emotional MOT, and you will come back feeling cleansed, refreshed, and closer to yourself and those around you.
